What the piece shows
At 16 km wide, the piece holds the whole ridge, from the Cime de l'Est to the Haute Cime. The seven teeth come out sharp, separated by their notches. To the south, the Salanfe basin and its lake form a clear step at 1,925 m. To the west, the slope drops towards the Rhône plain: about 2,800 m between the valley floor, around 450 m, and the summit. Below the north face, the flat of the Plan Névé glacier can just be made out.
