What the piece shows
Twelve kilometres is the width needed to hold the whole ridge. The Dom in the centre, the Täschhorn just to the south, then the long sawtooth of the Nadelgrat running north: Lenzspitze, Nadelhorn, Hohberghorn, Dürrenhorn. To the west, the Festi glacier drops straight onto the Mattertal. Randa sits at 1,406 m at the foot: more than 3,100 m of height difference over barely six kilometres. It is that wall the piece renders, not just a point.
