What the piece shows
The wide frame shows what makes Etna unique: an isolated cone that starts at sea level and gains 3,403 m in about thirty kilometres. The slope is even, except on the east flank where the Valle del Bove opens a scar 5 km wide and 1,000 m deep. At the top, the four craters form a bumpy plateau. Their shape changes with every eruption: the piece freezes the state of the survey.
