What the piece shows

Great Aletsch Glacier

Twenty kilometres wide is the minimum to hold the whole glacier. At the centre, the Konkordiaplatz: four firn fields meet there, at 2,700 m, above 800 m of ice thickness. To the north, the Jungfrau and the Mönch close the basin. To the west, the Aletschhorn dominates the right bank. Then the ice runs due south, flat and curved, between slopes that stand more than 1,000 m above it. At this scale, take the 15 or the 17 cm.
