What the piece shows
K2 is a four-sided pyramid. The piece shows the Abruzzi Spur, the south-east ridge of the normal route, and the north face tipping towards Xinjiang. At its foot, the Godwin-Austen glacier at around 5,150 m: about 3,460 m of vertical up to the summit, over less than 4 km horizontally. Broad Peak comes in at the edge of the frame, to the south-east. At 30 m resolution the point is slightly softened; the angle of the faces stays true.
