What the piece shows
At 10 km across, the whole ridge fits on the piece: Tomlishorn, Esel, Oberhaupt and Klimsenhorn lined up from east to west. The north side drops without a shelf onto the Alpnachersee, 434 m — close to 1,700 m of height difference in three horizontal kilometres. That is the wall you feel under your fingers. To the south, the ground steps down towards the Alpnach pastures, then the slope picks up again towards the Eigenthal.
