What the piece shows
The 30 km framing takes in the whole massif in one block. Cerro Paine Grande tops out at 2,884 m, with its hanging glacier on the south side. To the east, the Cuernos and their dark band, then the three towers: Sur, Central and Norte, between 2,260 and 2,500 m. Around them, the steppe drops to 50 m at the lake shores. That contrast between plain and massif is what makes the piece readable. The towers, very slender, are slightly thickened by the 30 m resolution.
